Frequently Asked Questions

What types of classes do you offer at Genesis Jiu Jitsu?

We offer Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) classes for all levels — from complete beginners to experienced competitors. Classes include Gi BJJ, No-Gi BJJ, and open mat sessions. We also offer a dedicated Kids program for BJJ for youth ages 4 and up.

We also offer traditional Gi Judo and No-Gi Judo classes, focused on throws, takedowns, balance, and stand-up grappling. These classes help students develop the skills needed to confidently bring an opponent to the ground while improving timing, coordination, and body control.

Lastly, we offer No-Gi Wrestling classes designed to build strong takedown fundamentals, positional control, and athletic movement. These classes complement both Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and self-defense training by helping students become more effective and confident on their feet.

Do I need any prior experience to join your classes?

No prior experience is required! Our classes are suitable for all skill levels, from beginners to advanced practitioners. Our instructors provide personalized guidance to help you progress at your own pace. When you walk in, just mention it is your first time and our instructors and upper belts will ensure you are guided step by step through your first class.

What should I wear to my first class?

For your first class, just wear comfortable athletic clothes — shorts and a t-shirt work great. No Gi required right away for our Gi classes; we’ll get you set up with a loaner Gi for the day. Bring a water bottle and arrive a few minutes early so we can show you around.
